BPR Executive Director Alumni

Madison Walker: 2023-2024

Working for BPR supplied me with many benefits that greatly enhanced my education and my social life. During my time at BPR, I developed invaluable technical and soft skills that I will carry with me throughout my career. Additionally, I connected with incredibly talented people, many of which have become dear friends to me.

BPR was a great experience as a college student who was looking  for real media experience. Since BPR is a student-run media strategies firm, I was able to jump in from the beginning and start making an impact. By working as an account executive, I was able to learn important skills like social media marketing, project management, and media relations. As an Executive Director, I gained leadership, conflict resolution, and public speaking skills, all of which I have found valuable to me in the post-grad job search.

Nick Williams: 2016-2019

I always say one of the most valuable aspects of BPR is the opportunity to form the experience you want. Because it operates as a full, small-scale PR, content production and strategic communications agency, members really do get the opportunity to take what they learn as students in the classroom and apply it to “real world” scenarios, so to speak. It takes initiative; what you put in is what you’ll get out.
Kristen Torrez: 2015-2017

I was an Executive Director in the 2016-2017 school year. Bobcat Promotions allows for students to get real life industry experience while working with actual clients in the surrounding area. As an Executive Director, I gained leadership experience and learned how to oversee a team of people while also handling client relations, acquisitions, and account management across multiple clients. I highly recommend students get involved in Bobcat Promotions, PRSSA and have several internships while in school. This is greatly beneficial in building relationships within the industry and enables you to be competitive and walk into an entry-level job with some experience underneath your belt
Ashley DeBolt: 2013-2016

Throughout the years Ashley was BPR’s account executive and eventually became executive director her senior year. She is employed at an integrated advertising agency as a Public Relations Assistant Account Executive. Her current responsibilities include bridging the gap between public relations and social media strategy. Her roles range from working on social media and community relations for the Blood Bank of Hawaii to overseeing the social team, influencer management and media relations for The Laylow, Autograph Collection and its restaurant, The Hideout.
She believes BPR was an amazing opportunity to learn more about public relations outside a classroom setting and continues to use the skills she learned such as pitching and team communication. The skills she learned from BPR helped immensely when looking for a role after graduation.
Chelsea Cua: 2012-2015

Working with Bobcat Promotions was one of the best experiences, especially during my time of an undergrad. I gained a lot of hands-on experience directly within BPR that helped contribute to my internships during my undergrad and within the early stages of my professional career. Press release writing and client management were such a huge benefit during my time with Bobcat Promotions and gave me the confidence to apply those skills to my post-grad career.
With Bobcat Promotions, there were a lot of different skill sets you can learn ranging from client management to social media strategy and more. Because of this, I’ve been able to wear many hats within my professional career and my personal development. You are always able to adapt and expand your skill sets with a great experience like Bobcat Promotions.
Christopher Henry: 2012-2014

A 2014, Texas State honors graduate and former executive director of Bobcat Promotions, works in New York as the lead for Social Impact Marketing at Nespresso. Before joining Nespresso, he worked for more than three years as an account executive at Edelman. He is a two-time winner of the Cannes Silver Lion PR award. His thesis for the Honors College at Texas State was titled, “A Cultural Critique of Contemporary Science Fiction Film.”
Lorna Henry: 2009-2011

BPR helped me build professional relationships, which opened the door to internships and job opportunities. After college I worked in marketing and was able to leverage the communication and writing skills I learned in BPR to quickly advance my career. BPR also granted me experience in event planning and community engagement; skills I’ve had to use in numerous positions, from marketing to human resources. BPR is a great organization that paved the way for many opportunities I am beyond thankful for.
Rachel Shanley: 2008-2009

Bobcat Promotions gave me practical experience to apply and receive two internships during college, at Creative Civilizations and Elizabeth Public Relations, which had a halo effect in helping me receive my first job. It was an early catalyst to kick off my experience. It was a way to apply the concepts and principles I learned in class to real-world projects and understand how they can be more non-linear than what it is taught in class. Finally, I made connections that lasted longer than the BPR which is foundational to career success. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working at BPR!
Ashley Kegley-Whitehead: 2008-2009
Bobcat Promotions was such a wonderful experience. One of my first real-world projects was working with Hays County Commissioner Karen Ford on the creation of the Shoot Safe Hays County public education campaign. That project was robust and included everything from media and marketing materials to grassroots community outreach and events. I loved every second of it. I’m now a Partner at a practice that is entirely dedicated to infrastructure and social causes and have continued to work on meaningful public education campaigns. It was Bobcat Promotions that fueled my interest in public sector work and provided me with many opportunities to explore that curiosity. I am eternally grateful and so glad it continues to be a great source of exploration for many mass communication students. Eat ‘Em Up, Cats!
